We then went to acquiring further commercial diving work, and chartering of the ASHBY.
We recovered a string of seismic equipment that had been lost on the wreck "AMAMO"(TANKER)about 8 miles out from the Humber Mouth.
Northern Divers had been contracted to find the seismic equipment,They tried for seven days to find the equipment but they could not find it,they were using surface demand diving equipment, which was not ideal on a wreck because they could only cover a small distance each day(the boat had to remoore each time they wanted to search a new area.
Eventually the company called off the search.I waited for four weeks, then asked the company if we could try at trying to find the gear, they offered £10000 on a no find no pay contract, we accepted the offer and set out in the "ASHBY" to the site, 3 hours later after arriving, we found the gear(wrapped around one of the boilers) and was steaming back to Hull, having made £10000 in one day. Tony Sparrow of Northern Divers was not very pleased, they had spent seven days trying to find it, and we found it in one day.
